Serf to Surf Essentials Balm
We've been huge fans of Serf to Surf products for more than 5 years now. They make great body balms in dozens of variations tailored for specific purposes.
The Essentials product line is a great all-around body balm that can be used for a variety of purposes. While Serf to Surf has several great specialized balms for specific needs, the Essentials can be used for many purposes.
One of our earliest uses of the product was to combat severe skin dryness we used to get in the winters, especially on the backs of our hands. It would get so bad that our skin would actually crack and bleed. No lotion or balm we could find provided anything but temporary relief, but Serf to Surf Essentials did the trick. We also use it on cuts and scrapes and it seems to help speed the healing process and prevent infection. You can put a little bit on a cut before applying a band-aid over a cut.
A lot of people get into the mindset that for dry skin, you should use lotion, and they forget about body balms. We use this product on our faces every morning after a shower and it keeps our skin feeling great, as well as providing some limited sun protection. Shea butter can provide an SPF as high as 6, so not enough for 8 hours at the beach, but for day-to-day use, a little sun protection can help and this product smells amazingly better than any sunscreen on the market. It's primarily sold as a massage balm, so the next time you get a massage, check the ingredients on the container of massage balm they are using and if it's full of chemicals or things you can't pronounce, try to convince them to switch to Serf to Surf.
It comes in a round tin and the way to use it is to pop it out of the tin, remove the paper underneath (if present) and put it back in the tin. To apply, just pop it out of the tin and rub it on your body wherever you need it. One nice benefit of this over lotion is that you don't get lotion on the palms of your hands when you are applying it. Alternatively, you can use it like a regular balm and just use your fingers to remove whatever you need while leaving the balm inside the tin.
They are packaged in metal containers which are both recycleable and highly reusable. For example, we use the tins when they are empty to store loose change, screws, nuts, bolts, rubber bands, or whatever else we need to keep organized in our drawers or cabinets. A great alternative to lotions which come in large plastic containers and whose main ingredient is typically water.
